Cristina Candela has developed a distinctive audiovisual practice that expands her choreographic research into the fields of screendance, visual poetry, and experimental film. Her work explores the body through symbolic, ritualistic, and performative imagery, often blending flamenco vocabulary with contemporary and abstract movement. Guided by strong cinematic intuition, Cristina approaches film as a space for choreography, where rhythm, gesture, and visual composition intertwine.

Her screendance creations, including Silencio, Bailes al vacío, and Action rituelle des ancestres, have been selected and exhibited at international festivals such as the Miami Screendance Fest and the Festival of Cinema and Dance of Modena (Italy) or Seismes (Fabra I Coats, BCN) . These works reflect her interest in the expressive potential of the body within non-linear narratives, often drawing from found footage, symbolic environments, and dreamlike atmospheres.

Influenced by the visionary filmmaker Maya Deren, Cristina explores film as an extension of ritual, subconscious movement, and embodied memory. Her audiovisual language often merges autobiographical elements with poetic abstraction, creating works that oscillate between dance film, video art, and experimental documentary.

Beyond screendance, Cristina has directed and performed in interdisciplinary projects such as entreJam at centre d’art Santa Monica (Barcelona) , an innovative dialogue between visual installation and live performance. These pieces activate specific spaces through movement, sound, and cinematic projection, emphasizing her interest in hybridity and site-responsive creation.

Cristina’s audiovisual work forms a core part of her artistic identity, standing alongside her practice as a dancer and performer. Through film, she continues to investigate the emotional and symbolic dimensions of movement, building a body of work that is intimate, experimental, and deeply connected to her choreographic vision
